Description:
Provide high-quality customer service to museum guests and maintain a fun, safe, and clean educational environment while working with a diverse public comprised of children and families of all ages and abilities. This position reports to the Museum Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in opening, closing, and cleanup of exhibits and grounds
  • Provide positive customer service and maintain a professional approach when dealing with the public and visitors to the museum
  • Actively engage visitors by playing with them in exhibits, answering questions, and helping as needed
  • Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of the museum: clean, sanitize, and re-set props and exhibits throughout the day
  • Monitor visitor interaction and exhibits for safety, condition, and functionality
  • Facilitate birthday parties, discovery day activities, story times, and other educational activities in the museum
  • Assist in Admissions as needed: use point of sale system to sell admission tickets, merchandise and memberships, make copies, stock merchandise and brochures, answer and direct phone calls
  • Assist guests with basic first aid (band aids or ice packs only) and fill out accident reports
  • Assist with general educational and programming needs and with training of new staff/volunteers
  • Check exhibits condition, repair when possible and report exhibit needs and incidents to Museum Manager
  • Follow and uphold the Board policies set forth in the LMDC employee handbook
  • Perform any other duties so directed by the Museum Manager or the Executive Director

Position Requirements:
Works well with colleagues using a friendly, helpful, and positive attitude. Manages phone and electronic communication devices courteously and appropriately. Requires standing for long periods of time, being on your feet, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds. Museum shifts are typically 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Saturday and Sunday 11:30am to 5:30pm with some events occurring on nights and weekends outside of regular hours. Preference will be shown to applicants who are available on the weekends and have flexible availability. We have both part time and full time hours available ranging from 20-40 hours per week.
